Coca-cola FREESTYLE RETAIL
Graphic Packaging International
Created in collaboration with the design team at Graphic Packaging
The Coca-Cola Freestyle machine proved a massive success in the restaurant space, letting customers create untold soda combinations with an unparalleled amount of choices. Graphic Packaging sought to pitch Coca-Cola on the next potential development of the Freestyle, an in-store unit where customers could create their own to-go packs of soda.
Our brainstorming resulted in a folding carton design which eliminated the cost, time, and maintenance associated with glue and other adhesives.
The carton design had to be adaptable to a variety of can configurations while still being able to fold together. We worked on creating a modular design that would highlight the product inside.
The kiosk itself was planned to replace roughly half of a standard grocery store aisle. The machine design focused on mixing Coca-Cola branding with an interactive display while still leaving enough space to accommodate an assembly machine.
The machine featured three screens, which allowed multiple users to craft packs simultaneously. A small cutout revealed the inner workings of the machine and users' packages are held in storage until they are picked up.
The carton template was divisible into packs of four, eight, twelve, and sixteen. Each cartoon would be printed with the name of the user and the selected drinks. A small cutout hinted at the contents inside.
