Medical codes are a fundamental component of medical billing. The codes are regulated by the World Health Organization and in 2015 the United States officially adopted the latest standard, ICD-10.
The transition from ICD-9 to ICD-10 was a source of great concern for many medical professionals. In response, NueMD had launched a free website and companion app to help ease the transitions for its customers.
I took over the project as we began planning both a visual overhaul of the app along with major feature updates.
The website was relatively up to date, but the app had a long way to go. The app design was inspired by both the existing website and Google's Material Design standards.
(This portion of the website uses Adobe XD interactive embedded prototypes and many not load correctly with some web content blockers. Click through the above prototype to experience the coder or scroll down for more information and specific workflows)
The main focal point of the app was searching and saving codes. Users could search by code, description, or keywords. In the event of multiple matches, the user was presented with a list of options.
A medical practice tends to repeatedly use the same codes, so preferred conversions can be saved for easy access and even grouped by custom lists of the users' creation.
Letting users sign in and create accounts was key to being able to save and manage their data. The login and sign up process was designed to be as simple and straightforward as possible.
Lists of saved codes could be quickly accessed through a separate tab. It also provides the ability to manage lists and saved codes.
Codes by Specialty allows users to familiarize themselves with common codes that their practice or clients might use.
