Throne of Rolls
Relish Marketing/Kimberly-Clark
Just after college, I was commissioned by Kimberly-Clark to use my design and theatrical set work skills to create an homage to the famous Iron Throne from Game of Thrones using KC products as part of a marketing drive.
Presented with a few material options, I settled on using toilet paper rolls because of their versatility. Beneath the rolls would be a substructure of wood so as to alleviate any structural concerns.
I also drafted plans for an accompanying crown and sword to go along with the throne.
The base was a Adirondack lawn chair that I heavily modified to more closely resemble a throne. I applied layers of flattened toilet paper rolls for the outer shell.
The crown and sword were also wooden bases covered in toilet paper rolls. Finally, everything was covered in polyurethane to reinforce and protect it.
The finished product toured around various college career fairs before finally ending up in Kimberly-Clark's Atlanta headquarters.
